If you want to succeed....fail.

September was the 13th Annual Forbes Global CEO Conference, gathering some of the most powerful business leaders in the world.

Now, it can be tempting to judge this group of billionaires by the numbers: how much they are worth, how many houses they own, the number of companies they run.... and with a pinch of disdain.  It's common to feel snarky about billionaires.

But something that's often overlooked: their exceptional human qualities. And it's those qualities that fuel the numbers.

Quite contrary to what we commonly think about rich people - as greedy or self-serving - what you can often hear upon listening to them is something quite different: a deep commitment and a strength that requires courage, heart and persistence. A "CAN DO" attitude that embraces failures as simply part of the process. A get-up-again mantra about life.

It's just what we practice in hot yoga....

Pissing in your ear

A six year old boy rushed up to his mother, all out of breath.

"I found a dead cat in the yard!" he exclaimed.

"Are you sure it wasn't just sleeping?" his mother offered.

"No, he was dead; I pissed in his ear and he didn't move at all."

"You pissed in its ear??" his mother asked, somewhat horrified.

Are you blessed with a lack of focus?

Recently I attended an exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art called, "Outsider Art."

This was the collection of the Boronskys, a couple who saw genius expressed in art by people considered "fringe" members of the times in which they lived.

The art included charcoal-dust drawings by a coal miner who had no other art supplies; room-sized mosaics from bits and pieces of flotsam ranging from broken jewelry to toy soldiers; small-scale cityscapes rich with architecture made of spray-painted gold and silver chicken bones; mobiles and whirlygigs that connecting an artist to healing energies from outer space.

This is the genius of those who think differently.

Many outsider artists lived in prisons, insane asylums, even on the streets. They were not medicated and thus, they were free to feel and express their vision.

Is that crazy...or genius?
