Hot Yoga Experiences > What Would Your Mentor Do?
"Miracles happen all the time."
Circa 2002, I heard this anew and with such depth and clarity.
"Be still and know that I AM"
Such a concise statement but loaded with profound meaning.
My Mom-Mom whispered these words to me on one of the last few days of her life, "Have fun!" That was in 2007 and has always stuck with me since. This is very relative now, especially with regards to doing things that you feel good about.
What a gift your Mom-Mom (Grandmother?) gave you, Laura and how beautiful that you honor her legacy with your remembering. One of my favorite movies lines came from Meryl Streep in "Bridges of Madison County", in a posthumous letter to her children:" Do whatever you can to make yourself happy in this life, my children." It must have been extra sweet to have this spoken directly to you.
"Stand quietly and things will settle down."
Laura - What a powerful moment with your Mom-mom! Thank you for sharing her wisdom with all of us- gave me chills from happy emotion :) & Really makes me think about what I want to say to my own kids...
“Good Morning Miss Universe”… that’s what my mentor says to me on those hard to get up mornings. Everyday my mother woke me and my sisters up for school. She would enter our rooms, open the blinds and say in her cheery voice “Good Morning Miss Universe”. Without realizing it, the tone was set for how I choose to direct my day. Sometimes I would be so annoyed with her cheeriness, yet my mother never let it affect her.
Until this day, Good Morning Miss Universe has empowered One Girl Revolution to take on the day with grace, beauty, competitiveness and confidence.
Isn't it amazing how one word, one phrase, one intention is all it takes to set your day? You are activating Law of Attraction the moment you wake up. Everything sticks to like-energy, so starting out in the direction you want is key...and that is the reason for doing your Universe list/ME list first thing every day. HINT: Make those three ME things about what you want to FEEL rather than what you want to DO.
Thanks guys! It was definitely one of the most moving moments in my life. It is in those "tiny" moments where I believe my biggest victories have happened.
"good morning miss universe" is a wonderful gift from your mother Leehe. This whole post (starting with Lauras mom-moms advice) is helping me be a better mom by focusing on how my own attitudes and words can be an amazing gift to others- especially my kids!
Believe in yourself.
I love how the strong and beautiful women in our lives always leave such an influence on us. We take so much away from our loved ones. My aunt is like that. She's warm. We go to church together even though I haven't been to church in years. Love is an awesome thing.
Alex - Do you mean that you "revisit" those church visits in your heart/mind with rather than attend in person? You know, the mind does not differentiate between what you imagine and what you actually see/do? Countless experiments show that the same brain centers light up whether you are imagining or experiencing. That's powerful. If you are revisiting those warm church times with your Aunt, then she is as good as there with you.
Last week I heard my mentor say in my head "Talk it out!"
Ooo, I love it when you hear Mentor-speak rather than "Mindfrick" - that old self-deprecrating chatter. Hearing Mentor-speak is also a habit that will become your dominant internal voice.
I also love the theme of how strong women in our lives impact us!
Today, I kept hearing my mentor say- RELAX and it was wonderful to listen.
Rhonda, Love the idea that my mentors supportive words will eventually take over my self-talk.
Have your Mentors words served you now that you are all graduated from Teacher Training?
"Stay in the room.......and breathe." This pops into my head so often when I am struggling."
You have an Inner Mentor. After doing your Mentor Video, you are a little more familiar with her voice, her tone, her words. Each time your mindfrick tells you the worst shit, ask yourself, "What would my mentor say to that?" Use this FORUM to write your Mentor's words, to share the highlights of your inner conversation (100 words only), to ask for support to hear your Mentor more clearly.
